The Turret

How it works

The Turret follows The Celebrity Traitors: every vote, every exit, the stories around the series and a running forecast of what happens next. Nobody types the pages by hand. They are built from data collected and checked by datapipe, a platform for turning live sources into something you can rely on. This site is a demonstration of it.

Where the facts come from

Wikipedia’s page for the series holds one table with every vote. On the nights an episode airs, datapipe fetches that page every fifteen minutes and reads the table out of it, cell by cell.

A reading is only used if it survives its checks: the votes at each round table add up to the tally that was announced, every name belongs to a player, nobody votes after they have left, a banishment is recorded in both places the table records it, no vote has gone missing since the last good reading, and it agrees with every episode already checked by hand. A reading that fails is set aside and the last good one stays up. A hand-checked record overrides all of it.

Right now

  • Fine: All three round tables recount to the tally that was announced.
  • Fine: Every name in the record is a known player.
  • Fine: Four episodes are on record and six are still to air.
  • Fine: The newest Wikipedia revision passed every check.

Where the stories come from

Seven publishers’ feeds (The Guardian, BBC News, Radio Times, Digital Spy, Metro, the Daily Mail and the Mirror) and Google News. Articles about the same thing are grouped into one story and tagged with the players they are about. Only the headline, the source and a link are shown; the article stays where it was published.

How the predictions work

Two forecasters answer the same questions before each episode: who is murdered next, who is banished next, who reaches the final, who wins, and which side takes the prize. The Model is a scorecard over the votes so far. The Oracle is a language model reading the same facts and the coverage this site had collected by then. The consensus is their average.

Neither has seen any episode that has not aired. When a murder or a banishment happens, each forecast made before it is marked: exactly right, in its top three, or neither. The record is on the Predictions page, misses included. Forecasts for the first four episodes were worked out afterwards from what was known at the time, and are labelled as such. Five earlier series is a small sample: expect misses.

Spoilers

The address of every page says how far you have watched: /through/3 holds nothing from episode 4 onward, on the page or underneath it. Sharing a link shares that level and never a later one. A story is listed only if this site had collected it before your next episode aired.
